Festive Fall Happenings at Easter Seals’ Linkages Transitional Housing Program
On behalf of the moms and children at Linkaovercome homelessness and transition into permanent and independent housing. To say there’s been a lot happening at Linkages recently would be an understatement! Fall is certainly in full swing, thanks to the generosity of the folks at JLMC, and Ajilon Staffing. Kicking off the first of several events being hosted at Linkages by the Junior League of Monmouth County (JLMC) was a musical and crafts workshop held on National Day of Service, September 11th. The JLMC is an organization of women that are committed to promoting volunteerism and empowering women in need to gain proficiency in the basic life skills critical to achieving independence. At the musical and crafts workshop, the mothers and children enjoyed an acoustic musical performance followed by the opportunity to create their own rhythm instruments and other crafts to take home and enjoy afterwards. Then, on October 20th, the JLMC returned to host a “Trunk-or-Treat” event for the children, where they donned costumes collected for them by a local girl scout group, and set out trick or treating from trunk to trunk. The JLMC volunteers arrived with their vehicles stocked with treats and games and even essentials such as brightly colored toothbrushes for the children. But before the trunk-or-treating began, the children received safety instruction from Officer John Waltz of the Fairhaven Police Department….and some really cool glow sticks, too! And, before they could even enjoy the treats collected the day before, it was time to welcome nearly 20 volunteers from Ajilon Professional Staffing & Recruiting Services the very next day. Ajilon is an Easter Seals vendor that provides specialized professionals in finance and accounting. On Wednesday, October 21st, the mothers were able to spend valuable one-on-one or small group time with Ajilon’s professional recruiters. They provided career and job hunting advice, resume writing and interviewing tips and materials, and, most importantly, positive encouragement. While the moms were engaged with the career counselors, a separate team of Ajilon staff members headed outdoors to entertain the children with games such as Frisbee Toss, Horseshoes, Whiffle Ball, Simon Says, Basketball, and more. And, as if all that wasn’t enough, the Ajilon volunteers generously presented Linkages with bagfuls of books, toys, and clothing in all sizes, all of which had been collected beforehand. Any additional funds collected among the staff members were designated for purchasing much-needed diapers and wipes, and other baby necessitiesges, Easter Seals sincerely thanks all of the volunteers from the JLMC and Ajilon Staffing & Recruiting Services for their incredible effort and dedication to making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities or special needs.
