‘Guest Supply’ Honored at Raritan Valley Workshop’s 37th Annual Dinner Dance

This month, Guest Supply, a Sysco Company and a leader in the hospitality supply industry, will receive the Easter Seals Continuous Commitment Award for 25 years of continued support of the Raritan Valley Workshop.  This award is being presented at the 37th Annual Raritan Valley Workshop Dinner Dance at the Doubletree Hotel in Somerset. 

Easter Seals job training and employment services help people with disabilities learn skills to successfully enter the workforce or to return to work after an illness or injury.  Services offered include pre-vocational evaluation, work adjustment training, school-to-work transition, supported employment, extended employment, and job placement services via its Employment Services locations, such as the Raritan Valley Workshop (RVW).  Since 1967, RVW has supported individuals on their road to independence by promoting these employment resources and opportunities for adults with disabilities.  By providing the workshop with a continuous flow of sub-contract work, Guest Supply enables RVW consumers to develop work skills and earn an income independently. 

Terrence, a 25-year-old RVW consumer, is living proof of the impact taking place at the workshop.  When Terrence first arrived at RVW three years ago, he struggled with maintaining appropriate work behaviors and lacked the socialization skills needed to interact with his co-workers on a daily basis.

The staff quickly identified the areas where Terrence needed to grow and provided him with outside resource referrals where he could work on building his social skills.  They soon began to notice his work behaviors changing in a positive way.  This remarkable improvement led to an increase in his responsibilities and, ultimately, receipt of the Employee of the Year Award for 2007! 

Employment provides the consumers with the opportunity to participate as a member of a community.  It is with sincere appreciation that we thank Guest Supply for its continued loyalty in support of this effort and its role in the success stories of people, like Terrance, whose lives have been changed by the important work taking place at RVW.
